Colorado holds a special place in the spiritual history of Mother Cabrini. Known in the Catholic tradition as Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, she was the first United States citizen to be canonized as a saint. In the Teachings of the Ascended Masters, she is known as Mother Cabrini, an Ascended Lady Master, once described as a “huntress of souls.”

Born in Italy, Mother Cabrini founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in 1880. She later came to America, where her mission among Italian immigrants expanded into a great work of mercy, education, and care for children, the sick, and those in need. The Ascended Master Encyclopedia notes that, within a few years, she had built dozens of hospitals, schools, orphanages, and sanatoriums, and that she traveled widely in South America.

A Life of Service to God, Country, and the Young

Mother Cabrini understood that spiritual life was not separate from practical service. She taught the importance of forming not only good Christians, but good citizens — souls prepared to serve God, family, and nation with integrity.

Her mission was rooted in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, education, and compassionate action. She cared for immigrants, children, orphans, and the sick, building institutions that became vessels of hope for those who had little support.

In the Teachings of the Ascended Masters, Mother Cabrini’s flame is connected with the “thrust of education” and the care of children. Her service is also linked with the flame of Maria Montessori, whose educational work is described in the Teachings as a pattern for education in the golden age.

Mother Cabrini and the Care of the Children of the Mother

Mother Cabrini’s work was more than humanitarian service. It was a spiritual mission to help souls remember their divine tie.

The Ascended Master Encyclopedia teaches that Mother Cabrini gives her flame for the care of “the children of the mother,” for the teaching of the young, and for those whom El Morya calls “the orphans of the Spirit” — those who have not yet found the tie to their own divinity.

This makes her example especially meaningful for parents, teachers, spiritual educators, and all who feel called to serve children and youth. Her flame inspires the work of educating the heart, strengthening character, and helping each soul discover its relationship with God.

Mother Cabrini in Colorado

Mother Cabrini’s connection to Colorado is still visible today through the Mother Cabrini Shrine in Golden. The Shrine describes itself as a peaceful place where visitors may experience God’s loving presence through prayer and quiet meditation. During Mother Cabrini’s final visit to the foothills in 1912, she and builder Thomas Eckrom made plans for the Stone House, which served as a dormitory for girls.

The Shrine grounds include a chapel, museum, retreat center, hermitage, conference center, gift shop, Cabrini Garden, Meditation Walk, Rosary Garden, Grotto, Spring, and the pilgrim path leading to the Sacred Heart Statue and the Heart of Stones.

The Shrine also includes the well-known statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. According to the Shrine, the twenty-two-foot statue was erected in 1954 above the Heart of Stones.

Holding the Mother Flame for Italy and the World

In The Great White Brotherhood, Mother Cabrini is described as one who sustained “the law of Christ and the law of liberty,” and as holding the Mother Flame for Italy.

For students of the Ascended Masters, this gives a deeper understanding of her mission. Mother Cabrini’s life shows the balance of devotion and action, prayer and service, spiritual education and national responsibility.

Her example reminds us that true education is not only the training of the mind. It is the formation of the soul.

Reflection for Today

Mother Cabrini’s flame speaks powerfully to our time. Many children and young people today need spiritual anchoring, love, protection, and a living sense of their divine identity.

Her life invites us to ask:

How can we better serve the children and youth entrusted to our care?

How can education become a sacred work of the heart?

How can we help those who feel spiritually orphaned find their way back to God?

Mother Cabrini’s legacy in Colorado continues to inspire prayer, service, education, and care for the soul. Through her example, we remember that the heart dedicated to God can become a living flame of mercy, courage, and transformation.

Your Seven Energy Centers

Understanding the Chakras as Spiritual Receiving and Sending Stations

Our chakras are spiritual energy centers that operate at subtle levels, invisible to the physical eye. Yet they affect every aspect of our life, including our vitality, creativity, emotional balance, and overall well-being. You can think of these energy centers as receiving and sending stations for the energy that flows to you, through you, and out from you moment by moment.

Each chakra acts like a step-down transformer, translating powerful spiritual energy into different levels of our being and nourishing the mind, body, and soul. When the chakras are purified and balanced, energy can flow more freely. This is why the violet flame is such a beautiful spiritual practice for cleansing, harmonizing, and accelerating the light within each energy center.
